Project type: Studio Apartment

This architectural interior photography project documents Porteous Studio in Edinburgh’s historic Old Town, capturing a space defined by quiet, minimalist warmth. Designed by Izat Arundell within a former blacksmith’s workshop, the photography highlights the intimate, tactile nature of this award-winning compact retreat. The visual narrative explores the seamless open-plan layout, cleverly zoned into distinct quarters for living, sleeping, and dining to maximise the modest footprint. Particular attention was given to capturing the soft northern light and the rich materiality crafted by local artisans, including custom oak joinery, slatted screens, earthy clay plaster, and velvet limestone floors. Carefully framed perspectives emphasise the meticulous craftsmanship found throughout. The resulting imagery showcases a deeply calming, uniquely crafted space balancing form and function.
