Grianan | Loch Rannoch – Architectural Photography

Location: Aberdeen
Project type: Modernist House
Client: Unique Home Stays
Architect: Reiach and Hall Architects

This architectural interior and exterior photography project documents Grianan, a significant Modernist house designed by Stuart Renton of Reiach and Hall Architects in 1964 and positioned on a sloping promontory overlooking Loch Rannoch in Perthshire. The low, horizontal form and monopitched roofs anchor the building to the landscape, while expansive picture windows and sheltered terraces frame uninterrupted views across the water and surrounding woodland. A minimal, considered design approach defines the interior, where white brick, exposed timber and an open-plan layout reflect strong Scandinavian influences and a careful relationship between light and material. The photography focuses on the dialogue between architecture and setting, capturing the enduring clarity of the original design and the quiet integration of the house within its dramatic Highland landscape.
